South Mountain State Park

South Mountain State Park is located in North Carolina, near Morganton. The river Jacob's Fork runs through the High Shoals Falls and then between boulders.   This picture was taken on October 17th, 2003.

A snow storm brought 12 inches of snow on Charlotte three days before that hike. The snow melted in the plains but not yet in the mountains where the temperature was still low at that time. This picture is taken from the same place than the previous one.   This picture was taken on February 21th, 2004.

The main waterfall of the park is High Shoal Falls. The corresponding trail goes to the base of the falls at an observing deck, then climbs up to the top of the falls by stairs and go deeper into the park.   This picture was taken on February 21th, 2004.
