The gardens at UNCC are home to a very special and rare flower: the Titan Arum was blooming on July 1st. It is the world’s biggest flower, found in the wild in Indonesia. It lives for 40 years and blooms only 4 to 6 times, every 3 to 5 years. Your only chance to see it is to rush on Tuesday July 3rd before the flowers closes. The greenhouse is open to the public with free access. The smell around the flower is really bad the day it blooms. The next day, the day I went to see it, the smell is mostly gone except from very close. The smell was not very pleasing… Everything about this flower is very uncharacteristic: the size, the color, the smell, the life span, the blooming cycles. Find more information at

There are also many other beautiful flowers in the greenhouse and around it. It deserves a longer and dedicated trip. There are outdoors gardens. I didn’t have time to write down the names of the flowers I was photographing.
