Grand Canyon National Park, Arizona, Sunday May 15th 2005.

The South Kaibab trail is a very strenuous trail going down the canyon, on the crest of Cedar ridge. The trail head is at 7200 feet and goes down to the Colorado river at 2400 feet in 6.3 miles (one way). This picture is around Ooh-Aah Point, 0.75 miles from the rim.

The Grand Canyon National Park is located in northern Arizona. The south rim entrance is just north of Tusayan, five hours from Las Vegas. The road is flat there, on a plateau covered with small bushes and prairies. A few miles before the Canyon, the road enters the Kaybab National forest, and the canyon appears suddenly.
The South rim is at elevation 7000 feet, the North rim is at 8000 feet, the temperature is relatively cool there with some wind, and the rims are covered with pines - the Kaibab national forest. The intermediate plateau inside the canyon is at elevation 4000 feet and is very hot. The Colorado river is 1600 feet further down.
Activities available are hiking, camping at Phantom ranch, tours on horses and mules, helicopter or plane tours, as well as ranger-guided activities.
